The UD-3900C4 generally does not require a firmware update. However, if you are experiencing specific video-related issues through HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 (Alt Mode) and have already tried standard troubleshooting steps, updating to the latest dock firmware may help.
When Should I Update the UD-3900C4 Firmware?
Before updating the dock firmware, we recommend completing standard troubleshooting steps, such as updating the operating system, device drivers, and UEFI or firmware on the host computer.
Examples of video-related issues that a firmware update may help with include:
- Display instability, such as intermittent flickering, flashing, or black screens through HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 (Alt Mode MST ports)
- A display not being detected after waking from sleep, or being detected but not displaying an image, through HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 (Alt Mode MST ports)
Note: Updating the dock firmware will not help with video issues through HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 (DisplayLink USB graphics-based ports) or with other non-video-related issues.

How Do I Update the UD-3900C4 Firmware?
To update the firmware, you'll need access to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 system with a USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 5, or USB4 port.
If using a USB-C port, the host USB-C port must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for the update process to work.
You cannot perform the firmware update on macOS or Linux. If you do not have access to a compatible Windows system to perform the firmware update, please contact Plugable Support for assistance.
