Unfortunately no, NVMe SSD firmware should only be updated when the SSD is installed into a compatible desktop or notebook computer.
What prevents the updater from working?
The manufacturer's SSD firmware updating and monitoring utilities are unlikely to be compatible with the NVMe SSD connected to the computer over USB. These utilities are designed to communicate with the NVMe SSD on a PCI Express interface and are not designed to be compatible with USB.
Some manufacturers may include USB update functionality for their own USB NVMe SSD external drives, however these may not use the same chipset as our enclosure and we can't guarantee that the firmware update utility will communicate with our enclosure in the same way.
How can I update my NVMe SSD's firmware?
In most cases the NVMe SSD will need to be installed into a desktop or notebook computer as either the primary operating system drive with Windows 11, or as a secondary drive in a computer with Windows 11 - most SSD manufacturers still only support updating the firmware through Windows.
Next run the SSD manufacturer's firmware update utility, when complete the SSD can be reinstalled into the USBC-NVME enclosure.
Do I need to update the firmware on my NVMe SSD?
This depends on why the manufacturer has released a firmware update, we recommend contacting the SSD manufacturer if there is ever any confusion or issue with the firmware update requirements, or update process.
