The TBT-UDH2 docking station provides video output via its dual HDMI 2.1 ports and a downstream Thunderbolt 5 port. The exact display capabilities and resolutions depend entirely on the host system's specifications, ranging from single 4K support on older systems to dual 8K support on newer Thunderbolt 5 systems. Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C only systems are not supported.
How Display Capabilities Vary by Host System
External display capability through the TBT-UDH2 is dependent on the host system’s external display capability:
Mac:
- Connect up to 2x 8K 60Hz with M5 Max / M4 Max Macs with Thunderbolt 5 running macOS 26+
- Connect up to 2x 6K 60Hz or 4K 144Hz with M5 Pro / M4 Pro / M3 Pro / M3 Max / M2 Pro / M2 Max / Base M5 / Base M4, and base M3 (with lid closed "clamshell mode") Macs running macOS 26+
- Connect up to 2x 6K 60Hz with M1 Pro / M1 Max Macs running macOS 26+
- Connect single display up to 6K 60Hz with Base M1 / Base M2 Macs running macOS 26+
Windows:
- Connect up to 2x 8K 60Hz or 2x 4K 144Hz on Thunderbolt 5 Windows 11 systems
- Connect up to 2x 4K 120Hz on Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 (40Gbps) Windows 11 systems (Intel 12th Gen and newer)
Important Notes:
- Actual resolution and refresh rate support depends on the specific host model, OS version, display, cable, adapter, and overall display configuration.
- For most systems a maximum of two displays can be used at a time, configured as either two HDMI connections or one HDMI and one Thunderbolt/USB-C Alternate Mode connection.
- M5 Pro and M5 Max systems may also support triple-display configurations, and M5 Max can support up to four displays via Thunderbolt daisy-chaining, but those configurations are more dependent on the exact setup.
